When MacGyver and I started this AT adventure we worked for 6 months planning, strategizing, developing daily mile estimates, places to stay and re-supply, etc. All that was great.....but we found out early on that our plan, how ever detailed and accurate we may have thought it was, was merely a rough "guideline"...to reference occasionally:). We adjusted daily and sometimes hourly on the spur of the moment. And that added to the excitment and adventure!
We planned a 21 day hike with an average goal of 10 miles per day and 3 zero days; targeting 220 miles. Well...we finished in 19 days, only 1 zero day (which was a forced day off due to my bad sleeping pad), and we hiked at least 220 miles (I think MacGyvers GPS watch had us doing around 240 miles). And we hardly ever hiked less than 12 miles per day...with a few days at 18 miles. I frankly didn't think I could ever do that many miles in one day but it was such a satisfying feeling to accomplish it. Here are some of the highlight pictures from our final day:
Wow. Just wow. Those numbers...wow.

Hi Possum! MacGyver and I finished up on Sept.7th with 351 miles in this year. False alarm on MacGyver taking ill. He was dehydrated but recovered in about 2 days. Was great to meet you this year!
